WORLD: Girl killed after surviving father's drunk driving crash

(NY DAILY NEWS) – A 7-year-old girl was killed while trying to cross a highway following her father’s drunk driving crash in Michigan, according to authorities.

DeSandra Thomas sent text messages to police about the crash before she was struck near Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus early Sunday. DeSandra died instantly.

“Somewhere along the line she learned call 911 if you are in trouble and she did just that we are just taken aback that we couldn’t find her before something happened,” State police spokesman Lt. Mike Shaw told Fox 2.

A driver called the state police to say she might have hit a pedestrian. However, officers could not find any evidence that she hit someone after making contact with the motorist.
“They went out there with their flashlights, did everything they could, searched around the area but couldn’t find anything,” Lt. Shaw told Click on Detroit.
DeSandra’s body was found about a mile away from where her father crashed.

GoFundMe page has raised $6,000 for her family.
