(NYPOST) – Georgia cops launched an investigation Sunday after a baby’s body was discovered in a cooler on the side of a road.
The Troup County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release the child’s body was discovered around 3:20 p.m. along Boy Scout Road in LaGrange, located about 90 miles southwest of Atlanta.
“Once on scene, deputies and investigators discovered what appeared to be a deceased newborn child in a portable cooler bag,” sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Stewart Smith said.
Witnesses in the area told police the cooler had been on the side of the road near the wood-line for several days — possibly up to a week.
The cooler is described as light blue in color with pictures of watermelon slices and zips at the top, front and sides.
An autopsy on the baby is scheduled for Tuesday, FOX5 reported.
