Student charged with killing mom, grandmother and brother with crossbow

(NY DAILY NEWS) – A 23-year-old Japanese college student was arrested Thursday after allegedly shooting four family members with a crossbow, leaving three of them dead.

Japanese newspaper the Mainichi reports that Hideaki Nozu killed his 47-year-old mother, 75-year-old grandmother and his 22-year-old brother in Kobe, Japan, on Thursday morning.

Police reportedly responded to the crime scene after a neighbor heard Nozu’s aunt, who’d been shot in the neck with an arrow, calling for help. The other victims had been shot in the head. It’s believed five arrows were fired during the massacre, all from close range.

“I intended to kill my family,” Nozu reportedly told cops.

It’s legal to own a crossbow in Japan, according to the Mainichi, which says the medieval weapons cost around $185 online and include sam-day shipping.

Surprised neighbors of the victims said they didn’t know much about the suspect.
