Clinton To FBI: “Let’s get it out.’’

HILLARY Clinton has challenged the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to release all the detail it has into newly discovered emails.

It comes after the FBI reopened its investigation into the Democratic presidential hopeful’s use of a private email system as secretary of state after reportedly finding new evidence on seized devices belonging to disgraced Congressman Anthony Weiner.

“We are calling the FBI to release all the information that it has,’’ Mrs Clinton said in an evening news conference that took issue with the bureau for making the disclosure 11 days out of the election.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump called the stunning announcement “bigger than Watergate”.

“Perhaps, finally, justice will be done,” he said at a campaign rally in New Hampshire.

“In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation. I am writing to inform you that the investigative team briefed me on this yesterday, and I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation,” he added.

“Although the FBI cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant, and I cannot predict how long it will take us to complete this additional work, I believe it is important to update your Committees about our efforts in light of my previous testimony,” Comey concluded.

The US sharemarket turned negative after the report of the new investigation.

Many analysts have said that markets were pricing in a Clinton victory in November.

In July, Mr Comey said he would not recommend charges be brought against Ms Clinton’s use of a private email server.

“Although there is evidence of potential violations regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case,” Comey said at the time.
