(RJR) – Minority Opposition Spokesman on Foreign Affairs in Ghana Samuel Ablakwa, has accused President Nana Akufo-Addo of breaching Ghana’s Constitution following his recent announcement of a visa waiver with Jamaica.
He says President Akufo-Addo erred when he gave the assurance without Parliament’s involvement.
Mr. Ablakwa argued that the recent Supreme Court ruling on the two former detainees from Guantanamo Bay makes the waiver illegal and unconstitutional.
During his two day trip to Jamaica last weekend, President Akufo-Addo announced the visa waiver between Ghana and Jamaica starting July 1.
According to the President, the visa waiver is a move to strengthen economic ties and relations between the two countries.Currently citizens from about 20 countries can enter Ghana without a visa.
These include Cuba and Uganda.
