MALONEY’S HUNDRED LEADS EDWARDS XI TO VICTORY

In sunny conditions, on a hard surface, Kirk Ewards XI, having won the toss, racked up an impressive 255 for 5 in their 50 overs. Wickets fell at 69, 204, 235, 256, and the fifth at 256, as the opposing bowlers were made to toil. Preston McSween 2 for 54, Bhaskar Yadram 2 for 63, and Josh Thomas 1 for 12 were the wicket-takers for Ambris XI.

In reply, Ambris XI never got going, as they lost wickets at frequent intervals. Wickets fell at 01, 25, 50, 59, 87, 97, 105, 122, and 122 for 9 in 22.5 overs with Josh Thomas unable to bat.  Seandell Regis top-scored with 27, Keon George and Sunil Ambris made 19 each, and Preston McSween 18.

Doing the damage for Edwards XI was Ray Jordan with 4 for 33, with support coming from Denis George 1 for 07, Dillan John 1 for 22, Ryan John 1 for 27, and Kenneth Dembar 1 for 29, with extras contributing 14, as Edwards XI went on to win by 155 runs. Man of the Match went to Desron Maloney.

Meanwhile now that the Windwards Volcanoes three practice games have been played, the selectors will sit and pick the final squad going into the 2019 CWI Regional 50-over cricket tournament. All of the Volcanoes contracted players will continue in tournament specific training, selected or non-selected players, up to the one-week camp.

The non-contracted players will be issued specialised programmes. Such training for both groups of players, will continue up to the assembling of the players for a Windward Volcanoes one-week camp prior to the tournament.

No deadline have been received from Cricket West Indies to submit the names of the selected players, so the selectors have sufficient time to deliberate, and select the best squad possible.
