The Officer who apprehended a perpetrator of an assault and robbery against a group of cruise passengers here on November 8th may be in line for a promotion.
Prime Minister Gonsalves said when he found out who the officer was he invited him to have lunch with the cabinet.
“You must give appreciation to persons who act courageously”.
“ I told the Commissioner of Police you must take note of this young man, you know I can’t promote anybody, that’s the police service commission, but I can remind them when somebody went beyond the call of duty”.
Gonsalves said that the officer’s courage and performance should be in the minds of those who promote persons for upward mobility.
“Actually this young man is one of the persons who work with the Governor General, so he did a very good job, am very proud of him”.
The assault and robbery of the group of tourist took place at Bentick Square near the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
A male visitor was choked and a piece of jewellery from around his neck was taken, the group came here aboard the MV Britannia.
The police officer who gave chase and caught the man was off-duty at the time of the incident Gonsalves said.
Gonsalves refrained from calling the officers name.
