St Vincent and the Grenadines is moving in the direction of renewables to aid in energy production.
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves speaking on WEFM said there is a proposal from a source in that regard and the government is following up on such document.
Gonsalves said there have been discussions with one entity, those discussions included Garth Saunders from CWSA, and also with Thornley Myers CEO of Vinlec.
“So waste to energy is an issue which has a life, the question is the amount we have, the economics of it, all that is being looked at right now”.
Gonsalves said a Private sector entity has put forward a proposal and naturally that would go into the national grid, however that depends on what cost it is produced at.
Waste to Energy (WTE), is a term that is used to describe various technologies that convert non-recyclable waste into usable forms of energy including heat, fuels and electricity.
WTE can occur through a number of processes such as incineration, gasification, pyrolysis, anaerobic digestion, and landfill gas recovery.
