St Vincent And Ghana To Establish Joint Commission On Development

Joint press conference on Wednesday 12th June in Kingstown Ghanian President Nana Akufo-Addo and Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.

SVG and Ghana signed a Joint Commission For Development Cooperation Document.

A time table has been given for its first sitting and in the first quarter of next year, it has been agreed that a meeting will take place in Accra, to see how the two countries can develop and push Economic relations between nations.

” The South-South cooperation, a lot of it is in talk and I think that concrete steps like what we have begun to take means we begin to walk the talk and it’s important that we do so”.

President Addo said the larger context is how we can develop relations between ourselves, the Caribbean, our brothers and sisters in South America and the diaspora in general.

Addo also spoke about the African Continental Free Trade Area

Addo said it is a one item agenda admittedly about the coming into force of the African continental free trade area.

He said it will be the largest free trade area since the formation of the World Trade Organization.

” We’re talking about 1.2 billion people coming into a free trade arrangement, but beyond that, we also address other matters including the ABC.

Addo said Prime Minister Gonsalves has been talking about that idea with such passion and he thinks it is a very important idea.

“We see the groupings that are taking place in the world today would be lacking and confining ourselves again to being marginalized if we don’t also wake up and see the necessity to strengthen and create our own groupings of work for our interests”.

Addo said he was very happy for the opportunity to come back to SVG.
