Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says the damage to the roads, bridges, river defences and other physical infrastructure resulting from adverse weather events which have been affecting this country since about September, is likely to cost approximately 100 million EC dollars or about 5 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) .
Gonsalves noted that since September this island has been impacted by five weather events, three of which were significant, due to the amount of rains produced, resulting in flooding and damage to the infrastructure.
The Prime Minister who made a tour to the Windward side of the main land St. Vincent to assess the damage to the affected areas, said there are some major areas that have to be fixed immediately, and some persons whose homes were damaged will have to have their houses rebuilt in other areas.
Dr. Gonsalves, along with officials visited the Leeward side of the island on Saturday, to assess the damage there resulting from the trough.
The Prime Minister made the disclosure while speaking Friday on the Shakeup program aired on WEFM.
