OB Sadoo Engineering Services Ltd. of St. Lucia has delivered the new South River Bridge on middle street, in time for Vincymas 2017.
In May of this year, News784 was told by officials at the Ministry of Economic Planning, that the bridge was on scheduled and would be completed in July of 2017.
On Friday 23rd June, finishing touches were being done such as the laying of asphalt.
The officials from the Ministry told News784 that contractors were putting in long hours and some weekends as well, to finish ahead of the scheduled time.
The existing structure is an old stone arch bridge, whose structural integrity was compromised by age, floods, increased vehicular weight, and the impact of roots from a nearby tree.
The new bridge is approximately 18 inches higher and has been designed to withstand expected increases in flooding due to climate change events and future road expansion.
Works were executed under Component 1 of the World Bank funded Regional Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project, with a contract value of XCD 1.7 Million dollars.
