Leeward Island Air Transport (LIAT) has begun the process to enable passengers departing from the new Argyle International Airport (TVSA/SVD) in St. Vincent to check-in online for flights via web and mobile, allowing them to bypass the check-in counter and proceed directly to immigration and security to their flight.
In a brief telephone conversation last week with Mr. Shavar Maloney, LIAT corporate communications manager, when asked about the implementation of online check-in for Argyle International Airport, he stated that the process has begun and they are at the planning stage. LIAT already offers online check-in for departures from all routes with the exception of Dominica and St. Vincent.
He stated that they were working closely with the airport management to implement the system and was confident that with adequate corporation from airport management that the system could be implemented before the end of the year.
Online check-in is the process in which passengers confirm their presence on a flight via the Internet and typically print their own boarding passes. Depending on the carrier and the specific flight, passengers may also enter details such as meal options and baggage quantities and select their preferred seating.
This service is generally promoted by the airlines to passengers as being easier and faster because it reduces the time a passenger would normally spend at an airport check-in counter. (caribaviation)
