Leacock To Step Down

Opposition member and Parliamentary Representative for the Central Kingstown Constituency, Hon. St. Claire ‘Major’ Leacock says he will not continue to serve as Vice President of the New Democratic Party (NDP).

Leacock says he will not contest the Vice President position when the NDP holds its 39th National Convention on February 12th, at the Layou hard court, St. Vincent.

In his conclusion to the 2017 Budget Debate in the House of Assembly on February 9th in Kingstown, the Opposition parliamentarian said he will instead pull up Senator Marcia ‘Zita’ Barnwell who is vying for one of the two Vice President positions in the NDP.

Leacock says a new NDP will emerge after the February 12th convention. He also indicated that he would continue to serve the party but was not very clear about what capacity, in addition to his role as Parliamentary Representative for Central Kingstown.

Recently Leacock had expressed confidence that he would be re-elected as VP at the party’s convention.
