As the 32nd pick, Harry’s rookie contract will be worth roughly $10.1 million over four years, including a $5.4 million signing bonus.
(247SPORTS) – The Patriots introduced their 2019 first round pick in wide receiver N’Keal Harry on Thursday and by all accounts, the reining Super Bowl champions not only got a premier pass-catching talent, but a high-charactered individual.
While fielding questions from reporters during his introductory presser, Harry was asked what he’d like to do with his first NFL contract.
“Give back in any way that I can,” he replied. “Definitely help my family, help some people on the island. I feel like with this platform I’ve been given, it’s my duty to do something good with it. God has blessed me to be in this position. So it would be a disservice if I didn’t give back and if I didn’t show appreciation, so that’s my biggest goal.”
The island that Harry is referring to is St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a small island in the Caribbean where the receiver is from. Harry is the first player from his home island to make it to the NFL and appears like he wants to try and create some sort of pipeline to further help the talent reach the pro level.
“Not anything specific,” he said when asked about what exactly he’d like to do to help the island. “I’m still trying to figure it out but I definitely want to help.
I feel like there’s a lot of talent on the island and it doesn’t get seen. So whatever I can do to help, I’m more than willing to do that. I haven’t really explored it too much because there’s been so much going on but that’s definitely something I want to look into.”
While from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Harry did move to Arizona to live with his grandmother where he ultimately grew into a prime receiver prospect and attended Arizona State. Now being a first-round pick, he puts a large amount of that credit onto his grandmother.
“She’s been everything,” he said. “There’s no way I would have been in this position if my grandmother wasn’t a part of my life. She’s been a great role model. That’s where I get my work ethic from, just seeing how hard she works, seeing her come from a different country and having to start over. I really do know there’s no way I would be in this position without that woman.”
For the sixth time in franchise history, the New England Patriots are Super Bowl champions!
