Joshua Browne and Nicolai Williams of the St. Vincent Grammar School are the winners of the Facey Trading SVG limited, America Fresh Powder Laundry Detergent and the Ministry of Education first-ever National Science Quiz.
The finals took place on May 13th at the Guides Hut Conference Room from 3:00 P.M.
Manager of Facey Trading SVG Ltd Mr Harry Gibson speaking at the close of the competition said that he was very happy to see the number of persons in the room due to the keen excitement he was hearing about that took place in the zonal competition.
He said he was pleased with the amount of schools that participated in the competition.
He said that the brand owners of America Fresh has been following up on the quiz and have confirmed that they will be sponsors again next year.
Gibson says science is a focal point right now and sought it fit to approach America Fresh makers of the America Fresh Powder laundry detergent which is safe and has no phosphate to damage the environment.
With that being a scientific plus, Facey Trading SVG Ltd thought it fit to twin the product with the science quiz.
Deputy Chief Education Officer Acting, Mr. Dickson Findlay, speaking on behalf of his Ministry said that “he is smiling this afternoon because with the sponsors on board next year, it will be bigger and better and he wanted to thank the company for sponsoring the competition.”
He continued that he was hoping that all 26 schools would participate next year for 100% participation.
Students participated in three rounds of the quiz, the grid section, practical section and the fast answer round section where they answered as many questions in 90 seconds.
Each zonal participant who was present received an America Fresh Shopping Bag with 2 samples of America Fresh Powered Laundry Detergent.
The Judges also receive the same.
Each Finalist from each zone receive an America Fresh Shopping Bag with samples of America Fresh Powered Laundry Detergent and America Fresh branded watch, a total of 10 packages.
This was presented to the students by Mr. George. Some students had already placed the watches on their hand before the winners were even announced.
The winners were presented with their prizes of smart watches, tablets and vouchers by Mr. Gibson.
Five schools competed and they are listed in the order in which they were ranked:
- St. Vincent Grammar School (Joshua Browne and Nicolai Williams) – 65 points
- St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua (Jared Nichols and Shaniel Richards) – 64 points
- Georgetown Secondary School (Mariah Lavia and Leona Lorraine) -53 points
- Central Leeward Secondary School (Maurice Whyte and Kalifa Bulze) – 51 points
- Intermediate High School (Afi Lucas and Ozika Browne) -43 points
America Fresh Shopping Bag and samples of America Fresh Powered Laundry Detergent were also given to the members of the audience who came willing to the booth to receive them.
