(JAMAICA OBSERVER -SNO) — There was laughter in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court last week after people inside heard that a man climbed a wall with his girlfriend’s (now his ex) phone after she gave him her phone to read her messages and that he spent about a half an hour going through her messages.
The laughter continued after the court further heard that the girlfriend had also climbed the wall in an effort to retrieve her phone, which allegedly contained messages from her ex-lover.
Based on the allegations that were outlined in court, Thomas had tricked the complainant and searched her phone. The incident occurred on New Year’s Eve at his mother’s home in Kingston.
But Thomas disputed the allegations.
“She gave me the phone willingly,” he said. I asked her for the phone and told her I wanted to see her messages and she gave it to me.”
The complainant when questioned indicated that that was the truth.
She then explained that she gave him her phone but when she asked him to give it back to her he refused and ran off and climbed a wall.
The complainant said she too climbed the wall and held onto him and during a tussle she tried to bite him and he threw the phone over the wall and punched her in the face.
But Thomas told the judge he was acting in self defence when he punched her.
“Sir, you may have a difficult time with that defence since you have admitted that you took her phone and that you saw something that made you upset,” the judge told him.
The judge in the end referred the matter to Disputes Resolution and extended Thomas’ bail for him to return to court on April 29.
