As Police continue to crack down on the gun culture here in St Vincent and the Grenadines, they have made another arrest.
On Wednesday, September 5th, 2018, members of the Special Services Unit (SSU) busted twenty-one (21) year old JOVARNIE BAPTISTE, a resident of Rose Place for two (2) separate gun-related charges.
He was reportedly intercepted in the vicinity of MASSY Supermarket at Stoney Ground with one (1) semi-automatic Smith & Wesson Revolver that contained Ten (10) rounds of ammunition without the relevant license.
As a result, he was escorted to the Serious Offences Court before Chief Magistrate Réchanne Browne on Thursday, September 6th, 2018, facing the charges to which he entered pleas of not guilty.
When the issue of bail arose, Court Prosecutor, Crown Counsel Kareem Nelson had no objection. This was allowed in the sum of Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000.00) with one Surety, along with several conditions:
Baptiste was ordered to surrender all travel documents to the Court, report to the Central Police Station Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and to be at his home between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. until the outcome of the matters.
He is also not to leave the State without the express permission of the Court.
The matters have been adjourned to September 24th, 2018, for trial.
