Sahara Dust Moving Into The Region

(NATION NEWS) – People with respiratory ailments are being asked to take precautions this week as a plume of Saharan dust is approaching the region.

The Barbados Meteorological Services is monitoring the progress of a thick concentration of Saharan dust haze located in the central Atlantic.

The Model data indicate that the plume of dust haze is forecast to affect the region form the middle of this week.

Impacts will vary due to the sensitivity of individuals and the extent of exposure. People with respiratory ailments such as asthma and sinusitis could be affected. Symptoms include irritation of the eyes, nose and throat, sneezing, wheezing and coughing.

Precautions should be taken to reducing exposure to this dust. (PR/SAT)
