(JAMAICA OBSERVER) – A woman and her brother, who have reportedly confessed to the shocking murder of a woman and her two children, were yesterday remanded when they appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
Twenty-seven-year-old Jamelia Leslie, a lab technician quality control supervisor, and 26-year-old Javone Leslie, a construction worker, both of Guava Ridge in Mavis Bank, St Andrew, are facing three counts of murder, a count of arson, and burglary.
The siblings were last week arrested and charged in relation to the murders of 27-year-old Kashief Jackson, one-year-old Aviere Williams, and seven-day-old Aranza Williams in Tower Hill, St Andrew.
When they appeared before Parish Judge Vaughn Smith yesterday, the two were remanded after the court was informed that their file was incomplete and that people in the St Andrew community were planning to extract vengeance if they are released.
A mention date was subsequently scheduled for October 4.
The police report that the bodies of the victims were found at their home on July 18. The police said there were also signs that efforts were made to set fire to the house.
The children reportedly died from smoke inhalation while Jackson died from stab wounds.
According to residents of the small community on the outskirts of Mavis Bank, the mother was found clutching her week-old daughter to her bosom, while the boy, Aviere, who would have celebrated his second birthday this month, was found in a bath pan a few feet from his mother and sister.
Residents allege that Jackson was involved in a love triangle.
However, Jackson’s boyfriend had told the Jamaica Observer that he had been in a relationship with the accused before Jackson entered the picture. But since then, he said the women had been at odds even though they had never seen each other face to face.
The police later revealed that Leslie and Jackson’s boyfriend have a four-year-old son.
