(CNS)- Police say a 32-year-old British citizen, whose body was found hanging in a bushy area overlooking the St. George’s Harbour on Christmas Eve, died from asphyxia.
Police said that the yacht Sea Owl arrived in St George’s on December 10, and 12 days later, Andrew Clapham and another unidentified crew member had an altercation on the beach during a barbeque.
Captain of the yacht, Louis Klinkert reportedly told police that a search was mounted for Clapham after he failed to return to the boat
“As a result, the officers went searching the environment of the marina and his motionless body was seen hanging from a tree in the nearby bushes overlooking the marina,” the police said.
Police said that the autopsy found that Clapham died from “asphyxia by hanging” and that the body was now being prepared for shipment to the United Kingdom.
They said the yacht has already left the island.
This is the second occasion that a crew member from a visiting vessel has died in Grenada in recent months.
In October, a crew members of the MV Ocean Trader – a Guyanese registered ship, died as a result of an accident.
