In an attempt to curb in particular the violence that has raged in Martinique for a few days, the prefecture is establishing a new curfew which begins this Thursday, November 25, 2021, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and will be applied until a return to calm.
According to 1 ERE from this Thursday evening, the police will carry out checks on the public highway. From 7 p.m. no outing is allowed outside of professional and medical circumstances.
Hope for a return to calm
This decision will allow the gendarmes and police to lift the various roadblocks and better control the demonstrators throughout Martinique.
Asked about the possible arrival of gendarmes as reinforcements in Martinique, the state services do not confirm for the moment.
By force of circumstances, the exemption granted within the framework of supervised sporting practice, modifying the time of the curfew to 10 p.m., is suspended.
The example of Guadeloupe
State services in Martinique are based in Guadeloupe. From the start of the violence, the local authorities had applied such a measure. At first, it had little effect. It was the arrival of 200 gendarmes as reinforcements, which slightly changed the situation. Dams and night-time abuses continue in Guadeloupe.
