On 20.07.2021 police have arrested and charged Winston Enville Parsons, 32 years old Labourer of Penniston with the offences of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of unlicensed ammunition, and Joel Barker, 32 years Landscaper also of Penniston with the offences of possession of controlled drugs and drug trafficking.
According to investigations, police officers working at theMustique Police Station responded to a distress call by a vessel that was stranded at sea and was later towed to the Mustique wharf by security personnel. The police made enquiries and conducted a search on the occupants and the vessel. The searchresulted in the discovery of one (1) 5.56 Zastava Serbia (AK47 pistol) along with 67 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, and 1632 grammes of cannabis.
As a result, Winston Enville Parsons was subsequently charged with having a prohibited firearm in his possession without the authorization of the minister, possession of 67 rounds of 5.56 ammunition without a license issued under the firearms act, while Joel Barker was charged with possession of 1632 grammes of cannabis with the intent to supply it to another, and possession of 1632 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of drug trafficking.
Both men appeared before the Serious Offences Court on 21.07.2021 and plead guilty to the charges. Winston Enville Parsons was sentenced to 4 years 9 months in prison for possession of a prohibited firearm and 15 months in prison forpossession of ammunition without a license. Both sentences would run concurrently.
Joel Barker was fined EC$1,530.00 for possession of a controlled drug to be paid by 31.08.2021 or 5 months in Prison, and EC$1,800.00 for drug trafficking to be paid by 31.08.2021 or 6 months in prison.
