A fifteen-year-old is the suspect in this week’s fatal shooting of his six-year-old cousin in Jamaica, local reports say.
The reports have identified the victim as Jadaine Miller. The fatal shooting occurred at Harmony Town, situated in Dalling Street, Savanna-la-Mar,
According to one account, the 15-year-old was showing other children a gun.
But the weapon fired, hitting Jadaine who collapsed into the arms of his uncle and later died.
The 15-year old suspect, identified in the media as a school dropout, turned himself into the police.
The incident came as law enforcers disclosed that juveniles are figuring prominently in major crimes in Westmoreland.
The Jamaica Gleaner quoted Deputy Superintendent of Police Adrian Hamilton as making the disclosure.
Hamilton is the officer in charge of operations in the Western Parish.
He told the publication that since the start of 2021, some 17 juveniles have been arrested for crimes such as abduction, rape, grievous sexual assault, assault at common law, and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
