Covid-19: abolition of the age limit for vaccination in Martinique

(la1ere) – Vaccination is now open to all adults (+18 years). So far, only adults aged 55 could get vaccinated or those with serious illnesses.

The easiest way to get vaccinated is to go to a vaccinodrome. In fact, town doctors and pharmacists only have the AstraZeneca brand vaccine which can only be used from the age of 55.

Doctors want to have access to other brands in order to be able to vaccinate the entire population over 18 years of age.

Vaccinodromes that have the vaccine from Pfizer laboratories will soon be able to start injecting the two doses to adults.

So far, in Martinique, 46,921 injections have been made. In detail, 33,439 first doses of Pfizer were administered and 11,706 for the second dose, a period of almost four weeks elapsed between the two doses.

Regarding AstraZeneca, 1764 doses are recorded for the first injection and only 12 for the second and second injections. Many controversies are linked to the use of vaccines according to their brand.

The Regional Health Agency recommends that the entire population be vaccinated. Thanks to this gesture, the number of people admitted to the various intensive care or Covid services should decrease.

In the meantime, Martinique remains classified at the level of high vulnerability.
