More than 100,000 new cases in 24 hours in India, new record

India’s most affected coronavirus state, which includes the megalopolis of Bombay, put new restrictions in place on Monday, as the country recorded more than 100,000 new cases for the first time in 24 hours.

The hope that had emerged at the beginning of this year to finally see the number of cases decrease has disappeared in recent weeks with a new wave that has brought the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 12.5 million, and the number of deaths to 165,000.

In the most affected state of Maharashtra alone, nearly 60,000 new cases have been registered in the last 24 hours – for every 110 million inhabitants.
