January 16th, the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph Gonsalves came to MGIMO in the framework of his first diplomatic trip to Russia.
The University’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs, A. Baykov greeted the Prime Minister and his wife. The visiting delegation also comprised the Minister-Councellor of the High Commission of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the UK Jinelle Adams and the First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the UN, Ellis Phillips.
Also participating in the meeting on the Russian side were the Head of the International Office, E. Andreev and the Professor of the Department of Constitutional Law, Honorary Consul of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in Russia A. Shashkova.
A. Baykov and E. Andreev related to the guests the history of MGIMO and its current development priorities, describing the recent celebrations dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the University. They also spoke about the different partner universities, with which MGIMO has developed joint educational projects and programs, implemented academic exchanges and joint research.
R. Gonsalves spoke about the current situation in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and in the Caribbean region, describing the nature of its cooperation with the USA, Great Britain, the European Union, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela, which are some of the key investors in the country’s economy. Among the projects for the socio-economic development of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are the creation of complex transport infrastructure and the development of the tourism and education sectors.
The Prime Minister also shared with the guests his impressions on the pride of his country, the airport. The airport, built on a small island with mountains in difficult geographical conditions required the latest technologies and the assistance of a number of American and European countries.
As the meeting came to a close, A. Baykov invited R. Gonsalves to return to MGIMO to speak to students of the University and the guest accepted the offer.
