Special Announcements By PM Gonsalves At 41st Independence Parade

Announcements made by Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves on the 41st anniversary of independence.

January 1st 2021, the appointment of all university graduates over 100 persons.

  1. All temporary workers with the requisite qualifications will be appointed permanently in 2021.
  2. Nursing assistants who retired before October 27 2015 will begin to receive pensions from the Consolidated Fund, effective January 2021.
  3. Public assistance to increase by $25 as at January 1 2021. Under 65 years from $250 to $275 and over 65 years from $275 to $300.
  4. 600 persons who were added to the special COVID-19 relief list will be made permanent on the Public Assistance List from 2021.
  5. Casual, temporary, or part-time non-unionized members will receive an increase of 25%.
  6. Full program to assist in protecting and uplifting domestic employees in households. The year 2021 will proclaimed the year of the casual and domestic worker by the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
  7. University students with economically disadvantaged loans will receive a complete waiver of interest for 1 year. Regular student loan Interest reduced from 8.5% to 6%.
  8. 2020 actuarial review by NIS in progress.
  9. All 1000+ students who attained the prescribed standards at CSEC, CAPE and Associate degrees levels will receive their $500 reward soonest.
  10. Tomorrow via amerijet 15000 Samsung tablets will arrive, 3000 in stock already and on Thursday distribution will commence. Ministry of Education will facilitate distribution to all students at SVGCC, all secondary schools, and all students in grade 6. Later on, a more generic model will be distributed for students in Grade 5 downwards to facilitate online learning.
  11. 58 national scholarships, exhibitions and bursaries – scholarships (16) exhibitions (11) and bursaries (31) – largest number ever.
  12. Sports and Culture – medical assistance to sports personalities and monthly stipends to older sporting personalities.

Three more sports ambassadors: Sunil Ambris, Keswick Williams and Peggy Ince-Hull.

4 cultural ambassadors: Rodney SteelPan Boss Small, Hance John, Darron Andrews, and Julian McIntosh to be appointed forthwith.
