COVID-19 – Gov't Looking To Extend Economic Support To Persons Beyond 3 Months

Persons who lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic could see economic support extended beyond the three-months government intended.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves speaking on the radio Sunday said it appears that there will have to be an extension the benefits since the nation is not yet back to normalcy.

Gonsalves noted that the economic situation in SVG is not of the magnitude felt in other islands, hardships are still being felt in the country due to the economic fallout from the pandemic.

He said he was communicating with the minister of finance, the Director-General of Finance along with the Director of the NIS on an extension of economic support.

He noted that the benefits include that of unemployment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gonsalves noted that government revenue for the month of June 2020, decreased by 8-percent over the corresponding period last year.
