Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves says it appears that some Caribbean countries are panicking in the face of the coronavirus. He said on Sunday not every case should be assumed to be a dreaded disease.
Aida Perla docked in Kingstown on Friday even tho there were passengers which had “some kind of virus” on board.
Gonsalves speaking on WEFM said that 23 people on board the ship “had some kind of virus” but St Vincent “acted sensibly with the protocols”.
The Prime Minister stated that among the 23 were crew member and some passengers, however, they were isolated on the ship.
Those in isolation remained there while the ship was docked in Port Kingstown.
Prime Minister Gonsalves said Port Authority, public health, the Chief Medical Officer and the Medical Officer were all involved in the process.
Gonsalves further added that there are protocols which have been laid down by WHO (World Health Organization), PAHO (Pan American Health Organization), CARPHA (Caribbean Public Health Agency) and which SVG apply.
He said it is not every incident that you assume is the coronavirus.
