TRINIDAD: Senior cops on sex charges ask for bail

(TRINIDAD EXPRESS) – TWO senior police officers who faced charges of sexual misconduct at a police station were granted bail on Friday.

Senior Superintendent Samuel Seepersad, 58, is charged with engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct that amounted to harassment while at the Chaguanas police station between March 31 and June 1, 2019. The charge was laid under the Offences Against the Person Act.

Seepersad, who had 39 years of service, was last attached in the Central Division,

Superintendent Rohan Pardassie, 58, who had 38 years of service and was last attached to the Southern Division, is charged with indecent assault. This allegedly occurred on July 4, 2014 at the Chaguanas police station.

The men were arrested at their division headquarters on Wednesday, following investigations by ACP Totaram Dookhie, Inspector Sheridon Hills and corporals Smith and Carthy.

They were charged by ASP Anthony Remmy following instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Both men appeared before Chaguanas magistrate Wendy Dougdeen-Bally who placed Seepersad on $75,000 bail while Pardassie was granted $100,000 bail. The bail condition is that they stay away from the alleged victims.

The men will reappear in court on November 5.
