(JAMAICA STAR) — Despite organisers assuring the public that the website would be able to manage the heavy traffic expected, the bujubanton.com portal went down shortly after going live on Thursday morning.
Tickets went on sale 11 a.m. on the website. However, minutes after the website went live, allowing people to purchase tickets for the long-awaited Jamaican leg of the entertainer’s Long Walk to Freedom tour, the connection was lost, making the website inaccessible to countless numbers of potential patrons in the cyber world.
Buju’s Long Walk to Freedom tour will kick-off at the National Stadium in Kingston on March 16. The event was launched on Wednesday night at the Spanish Court hotel in Kingston.
The organisers said at the launch that the website could handle the traffic that is expected.
“We have been guaranteed that that will not happen,” said Solid Agency’s Marlon Burke.
It is not uncommon for large concerts to cause website crashes when tickets go on sale online. Last year, shortly after tickets went on sale for Beyonce’s On the Run II tour, the website crashed, leaving millions of fans angry.
Prices for tickets to see Buju live on his Long Walk to Freedom tour are still unknown as they were not announced, and would have only been revealed after the website went live.
