This country’s Senior Prosecutor at the Serious Offences Court Adolphus Delpesche is of the view that cocaine has destroyed many persons here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the suppliers of such must meet the full brunt of the law.
Delpesche made this point on Monday May 30th, to the Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne before she imposed a fine of $5,000.00 to be paid forthwith upon 35 years old Donald Anderson a construction worker from South Side in Bequia who was charged for having in his possession 16gms of cocaine with intent to supply on January 3rd, 2018 at Bequia.
Anderson will be imprisoned for the next six months if he fails to pay the fine. The sum of EC$110.60 and US$2.00 was ordered to be forfeited.
Anderson’s charge stemmed as a result of a mobile patrol that was being carried out in the area and it was during such time the police acted on certain information and proceeded to the vegetable market where they saw Anderson with a black plastic containing 101 aluminium foil wrapped with the cocaine.
Anderson is said to have fled the scene but was caught by the police who arrested him. He was represented by Defense Counsel Grant Connell who requested of the Court not to impose a custodial sentence.
