A MAN who said he scaled the perimeter fence of the Piarco International Airport to escape an attack was arrested on Saturday.
The suspect, of Carapo, was detained by officers of the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
The bizarre incident occurred around 9.45 p.m. in the vicinity of Gate 14.
The suspect told police he was attacked in the vicinity of the Eastern Caribbean Institute of Agriculture and Forestry (ECIAF) campus of the University of Trinidad and Tobago.
He claimed that he ran to elude the assailants and scaled the airport’s fence in the eastern sector, and was trying to find a way out when he was spotted by security officers in a restricted area of the airport.
The suspect was arrested and handed over to police officers.
He was expected to be charged with trespassing, and appear before an Arima Magistrate on Monday.
