Trinidad: With bullet to head, dad drives to hospital

(TRINIDAD EXPRESS) – Hicks Alexander, the father of Local Government councillor Maurice Alexander, is expected to undergo surgery on Friday.

Alexander, 66, was shot in the head during a home invasion on Thursday.

He was transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Complex in stable but serious condition.

Councillor Alexander told the Express that his father was not out of danger. He said, “He was transferred from San Fernando to Mt Hope where he is supposed to undergo surgery today. We are positive that he would come through.”

The elderly man was at his Thick Village, Siparia, home when a lone gunman entered at around 6.45am.

Alexander, who lives alone, was beaten and tied by the man who ransacked the house. During the ordeal, he was shot once in the head and left for dead.

But after the gunman fled the scene, Alexander dragged himself to his car and drove to the Siparia Health Facility – 10 minutes away from his home.

Alexander, a taxi driver, was preparing to leave for work when the man ambushed him, police said.

Siparia police visited the scene and are continuing investigations.
