Pedro Ashton a resident of Biabou and an employee of the SVG Cocoa Company has been ordered to stand trial on a charge of murder before a judge and jury at the next Practical Sitting of the Criminal Session at the High Court in Kingstown.
The order was given on Wednesday, May 16th by Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne at the conclusion of a Preliminary Inquiry which looked in the circumstances that caused the death of Ashton’s then common-law wife Monique Clarke on Sunday, August 13th, 2017.
Reports are that on the date in question both Ashton and Clarke went to a function at Biabou on the date in question.
Having returned home Ashton is said to have requested sex from Clarke who refused. He also asked Clarke for $20.00 which she also refused to give to him.
Reports further indicate that at the time Clark was lying in bed in her bedroom when Ashton took a bottle containing gasoline poured it on Clarke and lit her afire.
This resulted in Clarke sustaining serious burns about her body and was taken by the police to the Evesham Health Center and was referred to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
Clarke is said to have succumbed to the injuries on August 22nd, 2017 and was buried at the Biabou Cemetery in September 2018.
Ashton is being represented by Lawyer Michael Wyllie.
