Khalique Bowens save some blushes for North Leeward Predators when he tapped the ball past Layou FC custodian to equalised in the 53rd minute, when the two teams met at the Layou Playing Field on Thursday May 10, 2018 in a National Under-14 Club Championship Zone D match.
Hosts Layou FC held the visitors to a goalless first-half, with North Leeward Predators enjoying a slightly greater percentage of ball possession.
Though at a disadvantage against physically superior opponents, Layou FC players kept running, passing the ball, and not allowing their opponents too much space.
Their aggressiveness paid off when a players was fouled in the box, and from the spot, Kay John slammed the ball to the foot of the left upright, leaving he goalkeeper with no chance of a save.
Layou FC went ahead in the 50th minute, but a defensive blunder soon cost them, the Predators equalising in the 53rd.
Despite both teams mounting constant raids against their opponents’ goal, the defences held up, and the score remained locked at 1-1 when the final whistle blew.
In another National Under-14 Club Championship game, this time over at the Brighton Playing Field, K&R Strikers recorded another victory, this time over Pride and Joy FC.
Goals from Kemal Barbour in the 15th, Fitzron Cresse in the 20th, Jonte Francis in the 24th, and Jequan Adams in the 38th minute gave K&R Strikers a 4-nil victory, in a Zone B encounter.
Division Two matches this weekend
The National Club Division Two championship continues this weekend with six matches being played at four venues on Saturday 12, and Sunday 13th May, 2018.
At the Layou Playing Field on Saturday May 12, Largo Heights FC and BESCO Pastures FC will meet from 2:00 p.m., and following will be the Avenues United FC versus Camdonia Chelsea game at 4:00 p.m.
At the Campden Park Playing Field, at 1:30 p.m., North Leeward Predators and Bequia United will meet.
On Sunday May 13th System 3 and Sion Hill meet at the Brighton Playing Field at 3:00 p.m.
SV United versus Pride and Joy game is from 2:00 p.m. at the Chili Playing Field, followed by Jebelle FC and Hope International FC clash from 4:00 p.m. at the same venue.
