TRINIDAD: Venezuelan comes ashore with cocaine, gun, ammo

(TRINIDAD EXPRESS) – A Venezuelan national, who entered the country illegally, is expected to appear before a Point Fortin Magistrate charged with possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Alejandro Tapiero Hernandez 27, of Venezuela, was arrested by officers of the Penal Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF) on Tuesday.

The officers were surveilling an area along Boleau Beach Road, Icacos Village, Cedros, when they observed a man disembark from a white boat along the shoreline with a black and grey knapsack and walk towards a bushy area.

The officers intercepted the man, conducted a search and discovered ten packets of cocaine, wrapped in layers of clear and black plastic and one black and silver Taurus pistol fitted with a loaded magazine containing five rounds of .380mm ammunition.

The drug has a total weight of 10.8 kilogrammes and an estimated street value of TT$4.3 million.

The exercise was coordinated by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Neville Adams and Supt. (Ag.) Robert Phillip and supervised by Sgt. Sheldon Ablacksingh, of the Cedros police district.

Charges were laid by Cpl. Clyde Harripersad, of the SWDTF.
