WESTCHESTER: Toddler dies after cops shoot mom accused of stabbing two officers

(NY DAILY NEWS) – A toddler died after Westchester County police tasered and shot the child’s blade-wielding mother Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

The woman allegedly stabbed two Mamaroneck police officers on Chestnut Ave. around 1:30 p.m. after officers found the little girl “in need of medical aid,” according to cops.

They called an ambulance for the child and found the 28-year-old woman while searching the home. She refused “numerous verbal commands by the officers to show her hands,” police said.

The woman then attacked two of the officers with a knife, according to authorities.

Cops tried stunning the woman to subdue her, they said, but the Taser was ineffective. An officer then shot the woman.

Authorities didn’t say how many shots were fired.

The woman and child were both taken to area hospitals for treatment, but the girl died, police said Saturday night. It was not immediately clear how the child died. An autopsy is pending.

The injuries to the officers were not life-threatening.
