GCC Region Visitors Discovers Sweet SVG

St Vincent and the Grenadines is making efforts to woo visitors from the GCC Region to its shores. The GCC or Gulf Cooperation Council is a political and economic alliance of six Middle Eastern countries—Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman.

Honorary Consul to Oman Deron Grant on Wednesday met with Hormaz Muncherjee managing director of (OUA) Oman United Agencies to hold discussions.

OUA is the parent company of United Travel and Universal Travel making the company the largest travel agency in Oman.

Grant told News784 that discussions were centred around the promotion of SVG as a destination for GCC countries and route options for travellers.

St Vincent and the Grenadines will be the first Caribbean destination to be promoted by the company with no cost to the Tourism Authority and Government.

Promotion of possible routes will begin April 15th; the most favourable route suggested was U.A.E Dubai – New York operated by Emirates Airline and New York to St Vincent via Caribbean Airlines.

The second option discussed was U.A.E – Miami – SVG operated by American Airlines; this option was looked at for 2019.

Grant said the second flight that would be operated by Caribbean Airlines in June -July for the carnival 2018 was especially welcoming to the owners of OUA since they would place them in a better position to offer more flights from the Gulf Region.

Grant said the idea surrounding the discussions is to have visitors from the GCC region visit SVG during this country’s offseason creating more jobs for taxi operators.

“I am looking forward to seeing visitors to the island outside of our traditional period, April to September we must capitalize on this vacant period”.

He said the offseason puts hoteliers in a win-win situation,  since there would be more room’s available on the island.

Grant noted that promotion that began at the beginning of 2018 via the honorary consul Facebook page reach some 1 million people in the GCC region.

OUA is a subsidiary of DNATA which is the parent body for the largest collection of travel agencies throughout the entire region.

OUA is also agents for British Airways and American Airlines throughout the region.
