Fifteen (15) persons are expected to benefit from a Trainer of Trainer Fruit Drying Course at the Centre of Excellence and VincyFresh Processing Facility at Diamond.
The course commences on Monday 9th and concludes on Friday 13th April 2018. The participants are drawn from the public and private sector including instructors and processors.
The fruits expected to be dried include mango, pineapple, banana and papaya. The opening ceremony commences at 8:30 a.m. and is expected to hear remarks from Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry and Labour and Ministry of Education officials.
The Course is the third in a series of four courses implemented under a South-South Cooperation Project through the Government of Colombia.
The previous courses were on Cocoa Cultivation for Local Producers and Extension Workers and Best Manufacturing Practices and were held during August 2017. The final course would address the Processing of Fine Chocolate. The courses are being implemented by the National Learning Service of Colombia.
The project which is being implemented by the Ministry of Education – Adult and Continuing Education Division with the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Transformation, Forestry and Fisheries, Industry and Labour providing technical support, involves three (3) phases:
- A scoping mission which was completed in May/June 2017
- In-country delivery of 4 courses to trainer of trainer participants and
- Training of top trainees in Colombia
Following the completion of the training courses, several participants would be selected to journey to Colombia for advanced training. This advanced training will allow the participants to extend the training to other interested Vincentians and help to create viable businesses in the rural sector.
The implementation of the project is expected to contribute to the strengthening of the bilateral relations between St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Columbia.
