An official opening ceremony for the Cumberland bridge will take place here later this month.
Following the December 2013 floods, the government of St Vincent and the Grenadines received financial assistance from the government of Mexico for the reconstruction of the Cumberland Bridge in spring Village along with river defence works in the amount of five million US dollars.
The new bridge will replace the 40-year-old temporary Bailey Bridge. The project was managed by the United Nations Office for Project Services UNOPS.
The Ministry of Transport and Works will be hosting along with UNOPS, an official opening ceremony slated for Tuesday, March 20th at the bridge site in Spring Village.
Presentations will be made by the Minister of Transport and Works Julian Francis, a representative from UNOPS and a representative from the government of Mexico.
The feature address will be delivered by Prime Minister Dr Hon Ralph Gonsalves.
