This country’s government will this year implement a ban on used motor vehicles older than twelve years.
Minister of Finance Hon Camillo Gonsalves made the announcement during his budget address in Parliament on Monday.
The Finance Minister said that this initiative forms part of the government’s quest to reduce air pollution and environmental degradation.
He said over the years there had been a significant increase in the importation of motor vehicles older than four years and that this had only caused traffic congestion and an increase in derilect vehicles left abandoned on the roads ways.
Gonsalves also announced that as at May 1st, 2018, there will also be an increase in the fuel surcharge on motor vehicles older than 4 years. This new measure is expected to yield $1.2million in additional revenue.
