FIFTEEN CHOIRS TO PARTICIPATE IN CHRISTMAS CAROLLING

Fifteen schools and school groups across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are preparing for the GIFTED Carolling Competition at the ultimate Christmas village on Saturday 16th December 2017 at the Solidarity Car Park from 1-8pm.

The carolling choirs will compete in two categories: Primary category and Secondary/Tertiary category. In the primary category, there will be eight (8) participating choirs. The choirs include: the Belair Government School, the Calliaqua Anglican School, Chateaubelair Methodist School, Dorsetshire Hill Government School, Kingstown Preparatory School, Pamelus Burke Government School, Rose Hall Primary School and the Sion Hill Government School.

There are seven (7) choirs in the secondary/tertiary category. These choirs include: the Bethel High School, Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia, George Stephens Senior High School, Thomas Saunders Secondary School, Tromaca Secondary School, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Performing Arts Society and the GHS Kingstown Girl Guides.

Tamira Browne, an organizer of the event stated that: “In Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, over the years, Christmas carolling has been one of the local Christmas traditions that bring a unique feel to Christmas in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. We want to see this tradition passed from one generation to the other and we want to recognise gifted talent from within our educational institutions and youth organisations.”

Choirs will be judged for creativity (25 points), harmony (25 points), delivery (30 points), uniformity (10 points) and crowd response (10 points). In the primary category, the 1st place will receive $500 and the championship trophy, the 2nd place will receive $300 and a trophy and the 3rd place will receive $200 and a trophy.

In the secondary/tertiary category, the 1st place will receive $1000 and the championship trophy, the 2nd place will receive $500 a trophy and the 3rd place will receive $250 and a trophy. All trophies will be named after musical icons in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines that have contributed to local music over the years.

The event will also feature the finest Vincentian entrepreneurs in the first ever Vincy Christmas Market and will encourage Vincentians to support local products and services for Christmas gifts. The will also be Christmas themed activity and gift stations aimed at wholesome entertainment for every Vincentian family.
