33 year old Clifford Coelho from the state of Michigan in the United States of America is now before the Court on charges of entering the state without the consent of an immigration officer, entering a place that is not a port of entry and having in his possession of 48gms of marijuana with intent to supply on November 29th, 2017 at Fitzhughes in the North Leeward area.
Reports are that on the date in question members of the Rapid Response Unit armed themselves with a search warrant and went to a dwelling house at Fitzhughes where the defendant was met with the drugs.
Reports also indicate that when questioned by the police the defendant stated that he came into the country by boat but did not check in with the Immigration Authorities. The controlled drugs were discovered at the house where he resided at the time.
When the defendant appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Thursday, November 30th before the Serious Offences Court before Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne he maintained his innocence on the 3 separate charges.
As a result, Senior Prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche requested of the Court to have the American remanded into custody until Friday, December 1st, 2017 during which time they will proceed with the trial regarding the immigration charges.
