Father and son die from apparent heroin overdoses

(NY POST) – A young father who’d travelled from Maryland for a family birthday party in Brooklyn died Sunday alongside his dad in an apparent double overdose of lethal heroin, police and relatives said.

Carlos Andrade’s girlfriend of five years found him struggling for breath, his face turning a terrifying shade of purple, just inside the doorway of his father’s apartment building on 27th St. near Fourth Ave. in Greenwood, her uncle told the Daily News.

His father, 44-year-old Joseph Andrade, was found unconscious outside the red-brick building about 3 a.m., police and sources said.

Emergency responders arrived and administered Narcan, a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose, and rushed them both to Lutheran Hospital, where they died about 4:10 a.m., authorities said.

Several hours later, investigators had taped off the apartment building and were examining a tiny red Ziploc baggie on the ground outside.

Jasmin Santos, the 23-year-old mother of Carlos’ 11-month-old and 4-year-old sons, emerged from the building with puffy eyes and a child in her arms. She got into a white Nissan SUV and rode off.

Her uncle, Yovanny Santos, said cops told the family they’d found cocaine in the pockets of the older man, but said it was likely a deadly mix of heroin that killed the father and son.

The police investigation is ongoing. The city’s Medical Examiner will determine an exact cause of death.
