Inmate To Stand Trial On A Charge Of Murder

Jilannie John, a resident of the community of Fairban Pasture who is presently an inmate at Her Majesty’s Prison, will face a Judge and Jury at the next Practical Sitting of the Criminal Session on a charge of murder upon Demani Williams a then fellow prison mate from Campden Park.

The order was given on Tuesday this week by Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne at the conclusion of a Preliminary Inquiry that looked into the circumstances which resulted in Williams’ death.

Reports are that on January 26th, 2017 both inmates who were housed at Star block at Her Majesty’s Prison were involved in a fracas which resulted in an altercation during which time John took a piece of stick and struck Williams to the face.

John then proceeded to body slam Williams to the ground which resulted in Williams being seriously injured.

Williams was subsequently removed from the cell by fellow-inmates and taken to Accident and Emergency Unit at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
