(NYDAILYNEWS) A Nashville man was fatally shot by a police officer after a foot chase led to an unspecified “struggle” and gunfire.
Jocques Scott Clemmons was the subject of a traffic stop Friday afternoon but began a struggle when he was approached by Officer Josh Lippert and then ran away, Metro Nashville Police said.
Police spokesman Michael Hager said that Lippert noticed a handgun in Clemmons’s hand during a second struggle and fired an unknown number of times at the 31-year-old.
Police shared a picture of a loaded .357 magnum pistol on their Twitter account, and said it belonged to Clemmons.
He was taken to a local hospital and the station reported early Friday evening that he had died.
Lippert,a five-year veteran, was placed on administrative assignment as the shooting is being investigated.
