British designer, Hilary Auty will be teaching a series of 4 one day jewellery making workshops at the Youlou Art Centre, Villa Beach, starting on Monday, February, 20th through Thursday Feb.23rd. From 9 am to 1 pm each day,
Ms Auty specialises in designing and making costumes for the stage, which include beading and intricate headdresses. She has grown a hobby into a successful business by making wedding tiaras, headdresses, hair decorations and costume jewellery.
Her objective for offering this series of workshops at the Youlou Art Centre is to share her knowledge of jewellery making with the people of SVG. She is giving these workshops as a gift to the community; she will not be receiving any of the proceeds.
Not only is she donating her time but she will be supplying all the supplies and equipment necessary for the workshops, free of charge to the newly established Youlou Art Centre.
It is indeed an excellent gift for the Art Centre, which will be using these funds to help in the development of the Art Centre.
Ms Auty is interested in working with people who have been making jewellery or thinking of doing so. The emphasis of the workshop will be to learn the language of jewellery making- learning the names and uses of the various components involved in jewellery making.
There will be demonstrations of basic techniques. She discusses and offers hints on presenting the finished products and the packaging.
She will talk about design, and encourage participants to use their imagination to seek ways of reflecting on the feel of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The focus of the workshop is to offer anyone who is keen on learning and developing their skills in jewellery making, the opportunity to create new and exciting products for a new business.
All participants must be age 15 and older. Each workshop is limited to 8 people per workshop. Please register early! To register, please call 457 1914
