The pit bull who took a bite out of crime was honoured Thursday with chew toys and a free doggy spa treatment.
Apollo, a 5-month-old pooch, saved Maya Fairweather, 18, from a man who forced her to the ground and began to pull off her pants at the Red Hook Recreation Area Park on Nov. 28.
Apollo dashed across the field — where he had been playing — and clamped down on the attacker’s leg. The man begged for Apollo to let go and raced off after the dog released him.
“Thanks, Apollo, for saving my life,” Fairweather said during the ceremony.
New York socialite Jean Shafiroff was the brainchild behind the award from the Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
