Deputy DPP Colin John Earmarked For Top Job

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has hinted that Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, Colin John, will be leaving his post and returning to the constabulary where he could be the next Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Dr. Gonsalves gave this hint while speaking on the radio. John, according to Dr. Gonsalves, left the Force a few years ago as a Station Sergeant before going off to study law. On his return, he was posted at the DPP’s office and is now the Deputy DPP.

It is anticipated that the current Commissioner of Police, Michael Charles, could be leaving his post sometime next month and that his deputy, Reynold Hadaway, is expected to move up to the Commissioner’s office, with John being earmarked as his deputy.

Hadaway may only be on the job for the rest of the year since his age of retirement is said to be in January. It is not clear if when Hadaway’s time is up he will be given any contract or if his deputy will be placed in the Commissioner’s chair.

Former Commissioner of Police, Keith Miller, was not the Deputy Commissioner of Police when he became CoP under the Dr. Gonsalves-administration.
